[Pearl has been lost before, and been on her own more times that that. It's just that when she's been alone, more often than not she'd been in the village, and when she's been lost, she'd been able to call Mystic Maya and Mr. Nick to come find her. But she's alone now, and it's not the village, and she's lost without a payphone in sight. Worse, she doesn't remember being anywhere near here before. Has... has she been kidnapped, like Mystic Maya was?! But she didn't even see who got her, and there's no one around...

But when someone does approach, Pearl tries to maintain a stoic expression. It's ok. If she's been kidnapped, she's sure Mr. Nick and Mystic Maya will help her! She can be strong, too!]

You're new, aren't you?

[Kitty technically has met children (or kittens) her age, but only really in passing, she's never connected with any. All people that she is in any way close to are adults. So she's used to getting a free pass for a lot of things on grounds of being an adorable child, at least with strangers.]

Um... new to what?

[Pearl really isn't supposed to talk to strangers, but if it's a girl around her age, maybe that's alright? (Mother was more particular about men in general, so it's probably fine.)]

Liminal!

It's like in some of the children's films, but it's not a film. And it changes a lot.

Film...? That's like television, isn't it? [She's never really been the movies, but she does watch Masterpiece Theater. Though she's never seen anything like this...] How did we get here?

It's the long features on trid, like... [wait, people here won't know the shows from her world...] they're like two hours long and there's usually only one episode.

There's those really powerful paracritters that bring us here, but they don't seem to know whom they bring before they did it.

That seems pretty long... [But if it's only one episode, she guesses that makes sense? But what would they show for that long? She wishes Mystic Maya were around to explain.]

What are 'pear-ah-crit-tears?' Why would they bring us here without knowing who we are? [That doesn't seem like how kidnapping works.]

They are really long, but not as long as some sports games when the teams are evenly matched.

Awakened beings that aren't metahumans. And I think they just don't care. [Or at least that seems to be the answer that makes the most sense to her so far.]

[Oh... Pearl feels so in over her head in this conversation. She's been trying to keep up, and she thought she was doing ok, until the part about 'metahumans.']

I'm... I'm sorry, I don't really understand... [why would they being awake have anything to do with anything?]

That's okay.

[She grins and reaches out to grab one of the other girl's wrists and pull her closer to the source of light nearby that, upon further inspection, turns out to be a swing. She'll pull Pearl past that, though, to the completely dark see-saw behind it. Some things you need two people for, and Pearl looks a lot closer to her weight than most others here.

There's a see.saw over here, and it will light up if we use it!

[Pearl doesn't really think it's ok- it's important to know what's happening! But she gets dragged off towards the see-saw, eyeing it. She doesn't think she's ever seen one before. But it looks like it would be fun...]

How does it work?

You get on one end and I get on the other, and then you push yourself up so I go down, and then I push myself up so you go down, and so on.

[It's okay, she only knew those things out of films before arriving in this liminal, but they can figure this out.]

I see. I think I get it. [She will certainly try her best!

She'll get on one side and wait for Kitty, and then push herself up.] Like this?

[Kitty will scoot forward and back a bit until she's in the right position to balance out what weight difference there is between them.]

Like that!

[Very, very faintly, the see-saw is starting to flow under them.]

[Pearl lets out a little laugh as they get going, not noticing the glow until--]
